Troubleshooting
Remove the old cartridge
Leave the printer on. Open the front cover and remove the toner-and-drum assembly. Press the green release lever to separate the old cartridge.
Fit the replacement
Unpack a compatible new cartridge when ready to install it. Remove its protective cover and seat it in the drum until it locks.
Clean the corona wire and finish
Gently move the green cleaning tab back and forth several times. Return it to its marked home position. Reinstall the assembly and close the cover. Wait for Ready without switching off or opening the cover.
When to contact support
Editorial guidance: If the message remains after correctly fitting a compatible new cartridge, ask Brother support for help. Stop if anything is damaged or will not fit without force.
Editorial note: Toner and drum are separate parts. This message does not by itself establish that the drum needs replacement.
